I was honored to participate in Sterren op het Doek 2024, a Dutch television program where artists create portraits of well-known Dutch celebrities and personalities while the subjects share their stories. The opportunity to create a portrait of Jim Bakkum was both a privilege and a challenge, offering me the chance to explore his stories, warm personality, and deep connection to his family in a unique and meaningful way. The episode aired on Saturday, December 28, 2024.
My portrait of Jim is titled: Jim - In een ander licht (Jim - in another light), this piece captures not just a likeness but the essence of who Jim is. The portrait depicts him leaning against the historic wall of the Vondelkerk in Amsterdam, a location of deep personal significance due to his marriage and his performances held there. By blending modern and classical elements and carefully balancing warm and cool tones, I aimed to create an intimate and reflective atmosphere that resonates with Jim’s kind and humble character.
